Meet our Newest Volunteer in Nepal
Alexis Popich
On October 4th 2023, Alexis embarked on a three month journey of service in a small rural village in the Sindupulchok District of Kathmandu, Nepal. Having recently graduated from the Seattle Institute of East Asian Medicine, Alexis generously took time away from lucrative job opportunities because she wanted to give to people who had fewer advantages and opportunities than she has had. She is in her third and final month of treating patients in Nepal and has shared her experiences of integrating into her community with us including running and placing third in a village Marathon over Thanksgiving weekend! We are so pleased to be sending volunteer acupuncturists back to Nepal to do service work of two to five month periods. After a short hiatus during the pandemic, our volunteers are back to treating subsistence farmers and their families in Nepal. Many of our patients suffer from ailments such a diabetes, acute and chronic respiratory failure, and debilitating arthritis which keeps them from being able to farm food for their families. Our volunteer acupuncturists treat hundreds of patients during their months of service in Nepal, transforming our communities from places of great need to places of healthful prosperity.
